Cheerleader Alyssa Blogs From Egypt

Hey Redskins Fans, it's Alyssa writing in from our military tour of Egypt! It's been such an amazing experience these past three days as we perform for our troops, venturing through Cairo.

On our first day here, we went sight-seeing with our AFE coordinators, Dave and Larry, and rode camels through the pyramids of Giza – a bumpier ride than we expected! When we returned to the hotel, we went right to practice.

Then, we performed for the Marines based at the American Embassy. Being my first tour, it was such an honor to shake hands with the men and women who have been serving all over the world and to get to hear their stories, from DC to Japan to Egypt.

Not only were we able to perform for the troops, but we were also surprised to learn that they had a little show planned for us, showing off their moves.

The following day, our tour guide, Amira, led us through the Egyptian Museum in downtown Cairo. We had a lesson on the history of Ancient Egypt and all of the artifacts unearthed by archeologists throughout the ages – we even got to see the mummies of pharaoh kings.

After learning so much about Egypt's past, we took a stroll and did a few minutes of shopping for souvenirs for friends and family back home.

Our day concluded with a performance for military men and women and their families at the Maadi house in a smaller local neighborhood.

While we were dancing in honor of the older troops, the majority of our audience was actually under the age of 10! They were so enthusiastic and excited to volunteer throughout the show and we were lucky to have them as OUR cheerleaders during each of our dances.

Overall, this has been an extremely rewarding experience to pay tribute and say "thank you" to our brave men and women. I can't wait to see how the rest of our tour unfolds!

Catch you next time!

Love always, Alyssa.
