The Washington Commanders have signed punter Mitch Wishnowsky to their practice squad and released tight end Lawrence Cager.
Wishnowsky, a fourth-round pick by the San Francisco 49ers in 2019, has appeared in 92 games. He has made 310 punts covering 14,142 yards with 1,042 return yards allowed. He has just 20 touchbacks in his professional career with 138 punts inside the 20-yard line.
Wishnowsky spent his collegiate career with the Santa Barbara City Vaqueros and Utah Utes. He was an All-American in 2016 and won the Ray Guy Award, given annually to the most outstanding punter in college football, for ranking second in the FBS in punting average and first in punts landed inside the 10-yard line. He earned the nickname "The Boomin' Onion" because of his Australian heritage and strong leg.
