General

  • The Washington Commanders fell to the Dallas Cowboys 30-23 on Thursday.
  • This is the first time in franchise history that Washington has played on Christmas day.
  • Washington recorded six sacks against Dallas. It was their most recorded in a single game against Dallas since 2020 and was only the ninth time in franchise history the team recorded six-plus sacks against Dallas in a single game.
  • Washington's second possession of the third quarter was a one-play, 72-yard drive. It's the first time Washington has had a one-play touchdown drive since the 2005 Wildcard Round against Tampa Bay. It is the first time this has happened in the regular season since at least 2001.
  • Washington recorded six sacks. It is the most sacks they have had in a game since Week 5 against the Los Angeles Chargers.
  • The six sacks by Washington are their most in a single game this season and most in a single game since Week 5 of the 2024 season.
  • The eight passes defensed in this game are the most by Washington in a single game since Week 16 of 2023 (8).

Offense

  • QB Josh Johnson completed 15 of 23 passes for 198 yards.
  • Johnson's 41-yard completion to Samuel Sr. on Washington's opening drive is the third longest completion of his career and longest since Week 14, 2018.
  • Johnson's 198 passing yards in this game were the most he's had in a single game since Week 16 of 2021 (304).
  • RB Jacory Croskey-Merritt rushed for 105 yards and two touchdowns.
  • Croskey-Merritt (7) passed Jayden Daniels (6 in 2024) and Rob Kelley (6 in 2016) and moves into a tie with Robert Griffin III (7 in 2012) for No. 4 in franchise history in rushing touchdowns by a rookie in a single season.
  • Croskey-Merritt is the fourth rookie running back in the league to have at least seven rushing touchdowns this season. He joins TreVeyon Henderson, RJ Harvey and Quinshon Judkins.
  • Croskey-Merritt (776) has passed RB Ricky Ervins for the seventh most rushing yards by a rookie running back in team history. He now ranks ninth in most rushing yards in a single season by a rookie in franchise history.
  • Croskey-Merritt has rushed for a touchdown in three consecutive games for the first time in his career. He is the first Washington player to rush for a touchdown in three straight games since RB Brian Robinson Jr. in Week's 3-5 of the 2024 season.
  • Croskey-Merritt rushed for his second touchdown of the day in the third quarter and his eighth of the season. He is the first Washington running back to have eight rushing touchdowns in a single season since Brian Robinson Jr in 2024 and the first rookie to have at least eight rushing touchdowns since Antonio Gibson (11) did so in 2020.
  • Croskey-Merritt's 72-yard rushing touchdown is the longest rushing touchdown since RB Adrian Peterson in Week 13, 2018. His rush is also the fourth longest touchdown rush in franchise history and fifth longest rush in franchise history.
  • Croskey-Merritt is the first Washington running back to have eight rushing touchdowns in a single season since Brian Robinson Jr in 2024.
  • Croskey-Merritt (776) passed Rob Kelley (704 in 2016) for No. 8 in franchise history in rushing yards by a rookie in a single season and No. 6 in franchise history in rushing yards by a rookie running back in a single season.
  • Croskey-Merritt's 72-yard touchdown run is the fourth-longest touchdown run in team history and longest by a rookie since Robert Griffin III had a 76-yard touchdown run in 2012.
  • Croskey-Merritt is the first rookie to have at least two games with at least two rushing touchdowns in a single season since Antonio Gibson in 2020.
  • Croskey-Merritt now has eight rushing touchdowns on the season. He is tied with Skip Hicks (8 in 1998) for No. 3 all-time in franchise history by a rookie in a single season.
  • Croskey-Merritt recorded his second 100-plus rushing yard game of the season. He is the first running back in franchise history to have at least two 100-plus rushing yard games since RB Brian Robinson Jr. in 2024 (3). He is the first Washington player to accomplish this in their rookie season since Antonio Gibson in 2020 (2).
  • Croskey-Merritt has become the fourth rookie running back in the league to have at least two 100-plus yard rushing games this season joining Kyle Monangai, Ashton Jeanty and TreVeyon Henderson.
  • Croskey-Merritt becomes the first rookie in franchise history to have at least two games with at least two rushing touchdowns and 100-plus rushing yards in a single season.
  • Croskey-Merritt is the first Washington player to rush for multiple touchdowns in a single game against the Dallas Cowboys since Antonio Gibson did so on Nov. 26, 2020.
  • Croskey-Merritt is the fourth rookie in team history to rush for 100-plus yards against Dallas. He joined RB Antonio Gibson, RB Alfred Morris and RB Lionel Vital.
  • WR Terry McLaurin caught five passes for 63 yards.
  • McLaurin recorded his 55th reception against Dallas, passing Jordan Reed (51) for No. 8 in franchise history in receptions against the Dallas Cowboys. He is tied with Bobby Mitchell (55) for No. 7 in franchise history in reception against Dallas.
  • WR Deebo Samuel Sr. caught two passes for 68 yards. He also rushed for 25 yards.
  • Samuel Sr.'s 41-yard reception on Washington's opening drive was his longest of the season.
  • Samuel Sr. (94) posted his third-most yards in a first half in his career, and most since Week 6, 2024.
  • TE Ben Sinnott caught three passes for 29 yards.
  • Sinnott's three receptions is a new career high for receptions in a game

Defense

  • DT Ricky Barber totaled five tackles, one sack, one quarterback hit and one tackle for loss.
  • Barber recorded his first career sack
  • Barber is the first undrafted rookie to record a sack for Washington since DE Jackson Jeffcoat in Week 15, 2014. He is the 12th undrafted rookie to record a sack for Washington all-time.
  • CB Jonathan Jones had one tackle and two passes defensed.
  • Jones has recorded multiple passes defensed in a single game for the first time since Week 17 of the 2023 season.
  • OLB Von Miller totaled two tackles, one sack and one tackle for loss.
  • Miller recorded his eighth sack of the season. His 8.0 sacks this season are the most he has had in a single season since 2022 (8.0).
  • Miller has recorded his 137.5th sack and has moved into a tie with Richard Dent and John Randle for No. 10 all-time in NFL history in official sacks (since 1982).
  • DT Jer'Zhan Newton recorded nine total tackles, five quarterback hits, 3.0 sacks and two tackles for loss.
  • Newton recorded his third sack of the season, fifth of his career, a single season career-high.
  • Newton recorded his second sack of the game in the third quarter. It is the first time in his career that he has recorded a multi-sack game.
  • Newton is the first Washington player to record at least 2.5 sacks in a game since LB Frankie Luvu did so in Week 6 of the 2024 season
  • Newton is the first player in franchise history to record at least 3.0 sacks in a single game since DE Preston Smith in Week 16 of 2015 (3.0).
  • Newton is only the second player in franchise history to record three-plus sacks against the Dallas Cowboys in a single game, joining Phillip Daniels (4 vs. Dallas on Dec. 18, 2005).
  • Newton's five quarterback hits are the most by a defensive player in a single game since DE Ryan Kerrigan (5) in Week 6 of the 2016 season.
  • DE Preston Smith recorded two total tackles, one quarterback hit and a half sack.
  • Smith recorded his first sack of the season in the second quarter. It his first since Week 10 of 2024 and first sack with Washington since Week 15 of the 2018 season.
  • Smith (25.0) has moved into a tie with Matt Ioannidis (25.0) and Wilber Marshall (25.0) for No. 14 in franchise history in official sacks (since 1982).
  • LB Bobby Wagner finished tied for the team-lead 10 total tackles. He also added two quarterback hits, one tackle for loss and 0.5 sacks.

Special Teams

  • K Jake Moody finished the game three-for-three from field goal range and two-for-two on extra points.
