Final thoughts | Quinn provides updates on Daniels, Lattimore, McCaffrey

DAN QUINN THUMBNAIL

Washington Commanders head coach Dan Quinn addressed the media the day after the team's 38-14 loss to the Seattle Seahawks. Here are some of his final thoughts before the Commanders move on to their Week 10 against the Detroit Lions.

-- Let's start off with the injury news. Quinn provided unfortunate updates for three players, the most notable being quarterback Jayden Daniels, who he confirmed suffered a dislocated elbow in the fourth quarter of Sunday's game. There are no fractures, which is good news, but there is no timetable for his return. As for the other two -- Marshon Lattimore and Luke McCaffrey -- Lattimore tore his ACL and is done for the season. McCaffrey broke his collarbone and will miss extended time, although there is no clear timetable for his return, either.

-- On another injury note, Quinn said it was unlikely that Terry McLaurin would return from his quad injury for the Commanders' next game and didn't provide a clear answer on whether he would make the trip to Spain for Washington's game against the Miami Dolphins.

-- Quinn expressed regret for keeping Daniels in the game after it became clear the Commanders could not make a comeback against the Seahawks. "I've been thinking about it nonstop," Quinn said, "and man, I missed it." The plan was to avoid any read run plays on the drive, but Daniels elected to sramble on a play to try to get into the end zone. "That's on me," Quinn added, because saying once again that the team "missed the mark" against the Seahawks.

-- Quinn was asked again about changes to the defense, as the unit gave up four passing touchdowns in the first half. This week, he was asked about making any staff changes, to which the head coach said he isn't considering at this time.

"So, the executing, man it's players, it's coaches, it's all of us. And we're capable of playing these calls and playing them better. And I'm certain of it. My belief from the players is high and the staff is high. We got to get this job done, man. It was extremely frustrating and you know, we're going to look at everything to make sure, like whatever we need to do to play our best, we're going to find a way to do that."

-- Quinn did say, however, that defensive coordinator Joe Whitt Jr. would move down to the field to call plays for the Lions game.

"Joe will move down from the press box onto the field this week and we're going to dig in hard on changes we can make, to make an impact and make a difference. And that's one that we will do."

-- It's been a difficult stretch for the Commanders, who have lost by double digits in each of their last three games. Quinn said the team is "not staying on this trajectory, but it's where we are." It can be easy for players to check out in such circumstances, but "that's when you got to lean in the hardest."

"And we're fortunate about the group that is here, what they stand for, and yeah, being in the team meeting today, it's hard, man. But we're also the ones that got into it, and we're the same ones who are going to get out of it. And you got to own all of it, man."
