The Washington Commanders will take on the Denver Broncos at Northwest Stadium on Sunday Night Football. Here are some quick hits about the matchup.

Overview
Week 12: BYE (Week 11: Defeated Chiefs, 22-19)

  • The Broncos have won eight consecutive games, their last loss coming over two months ago – Week 3 vs. the Chargers (23-20, on Sept. 21).
  • It is the longest win streak for Denver since an 8-game win streak that stretched over the 2014 and 2015 seasons.
  • The last time the Broncos won nine straight games was their franchise-record 17-game win streak that stretched from the 2012 season to the 2013 season (Oct. 15, 2012 to Oct. 13, 2013).
  • Six of the eight wins in this streak have come by less than a touchdown, including the last three wins coming by three points each.
  • This is just the second time in franchise history Denver has won three consecutive games in a season, each by three points or less (2011).
  • Only once in NFL history has a team won four consecutive games, each by three points or less – 1986 Giants (won the Super Bowl that season).
  • The six wins by five points or less this season is tied for the most by Denver in a single season, with six games left in the season. The Broncos also had six wins by less than a TD in 2011, 1996, and 1984.
  • Denver is 9-2 on the season, with the two losses coming by a total of four points, on two field goals with no time left: Lost 29-28 to the Colts in Week 2; lost 23-20 to the Chargers in Week 3. This is how close the Broncos are to being 11-0 entering this week.
  • Denver is one win away from a second straight season with 10 or more wins. The last time the Broncos had double-digit wins in consecutive seasons was a four-season streak from 2012 to 2015. That stretch included two Super Bowl appearances including a win in Super Bowl 50.
  • The Broncos are 4-1 over the last five seasons in the first game coming off a bye week.
  • The Broncos are 3-0 this season vs. NFC opponents, all coming against the NFC East. After Sunday's game, Denver will have one more game vs. an NFC opponent – Week 15 vs. Green Bay.
  • Denver has not won at Washington since 1998 (this is just third meeting in Washington since that 1998 game)

Offense
Season Averages: Rushing (122.3 YPG); Passing (213.0 YPG), Total (335.3 YPG), Scoring (23.4 PPG)
Season Rankings: Rushing (11th); Passing (17th); Total (14th); Scoring (16th)

  • Denver has won eight in a row, despite scoring 22 points or less in five of the eight games, including each of the last three.
  • The Broncos are 6-1 this season when they score 22 or fewer points in a game.
  • Denver is 5-0 when it rushes for 130 or more yards, but is also 4-0 when it rushes for 100 or fewer yards (0-2 when it has between 101- and 129-yards rushing).
  • The Broncos has scored more than 21 points in just one of their five "road" games (game in London was considered a road game for Denver), and that came back in Week 2: 28 points in loss at Indianapolis.
  • This is the fourth game this season Denver is playing against an opponent currently in the bottom 5 of the league in total yards allowed: Cincinnati (last), New York Giants (30th), Dallas (29th). In those games, Denver is averaging 35.0 PPG and 448.3 total YPG.
  • In the other 8 games, Denver is averaging just 19.0 PPG and 292.9 YPG.
  • Denver is coming off season lows in rush yards (59) and yards per rush (2.8) in Week 11 vs. the Chiefs. The Broncos' 21 rush attempts in that game also tied a season low.
  • When Denver gets more than 25 carries in a game, it is 6-0 (3-2 with 24 or fewer rush attempts)
  • First 9 games: 133.6 rush YPG, 4.9 yards per carry
  • Last 2 games: 71.5 rush YPG, 3.0 yards per carry
  • Although Denver ranks in the bottom half of the league in passing yards (17th) and passer rating (85.0 – 25th), it has just 8 INT in 388 pass attempts, and has been sacked only 13 times, 2nd fewest in the league (Seattle is first at 11).
  • QB Bo Nix has the fourth-most pass attempts in the league (387), but is averaging just 6.3 yards per pass attempt. That ranks 21st out of 24 QBs who have at least 260 pass attempts.
  • Nix ranks 26th among qualified QB in passer rating (86.1).

  • With leading rusher RB J.K. Dobbins (772 yards) out the rest of the season with a foot injury, rookie RJ Harvey (244 yards) is the team's primary running back. Harvey had 70 rushing yards in Week 1 vs. Tennessee, but has gained more than 50 yards on the ground in one game since (Week 4 vs. the Bengals – 58 yards).
  • WR Courtland Sutton leads the team in receiving yards (649), but has had just one TD reception over his last seven games (Week 9 vs. the Texans).

  • Opponents are also completing just 58.0% percentage of their passes against Denver, the second-lowest opponent completion percentage in the league (Eagles are lowest at 57.3%).
