For sports fans, the start of training camp means that the regular season is just around the corner, and all the plans their favorite team made to improve will finally be set in motion.
For those who are also gamers, it also means that the new version of the Madden video game is about to be released. Individual ratings have been slowly released this week, and we got the rookie ratings, including the Washington Commanders' five-player draft class, on July 29.
Here's how the Madden developers rated the Commanders' rookies:
Player | OVR | SPD | STR | AGI | COD | INJ | AWR |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
CB Trey Amos | 75 | 91 | 64 | 83 | 82 | 89 | 75 |
T Josh Conerly | 74 | 71 | 82 | 70 | 59 | 89 | 73 |
WR Jaylin Lane | 72 | 94 | 58 | 91 | 90 | 86 | 65 |
RB Jacory Croskey-Merritt | 67 | 91 | 67 | 76 | 76 | 89 | 71 |
LB Kain Medrano | 66 | 90 | 71 | 85 | 80 | 89 | 66 |
It shouldn't be shocking that offensive tackle Josh Conerly Jr. and cornerback Trey Amos --Washington's first- and second-round picks, respectively -- are the team's top-rated rookies. However, it might be a surprise to some that Amos just slightly beat out Conerly with a 75 overall rating. Both players ranked among the top of their positions, but Amos, taken No. 61 overall, was not selected until the end of the second round.
But the Commanders viewed Amos as a first-round pick, and he performed as such during the first week of camp while working with the starting defense. Amos is tied with Benjamin Morrison for the fourth-best rating among rookie cornerbacks behind Maxwell Hairston, Jahdae Barron and Travis Hunter. He also has strong ratings in speed (92), agility (83) and change of direction (82).
Conerly, meanwhile, is the third-best rookie right tackle in the game and fifth-best rookie tackle overall. He might take more time to get on the field for the Commanders, as they already have most of their starting positions filled, but have been positive moments of growth. The Commanders drafted Conerly based on his athletic traits, and some of that will show up in the game. His agility rating (70) is the fourth best among rookie offensive tackles, while his awareness rating (73) is also fourth among his peers.
Madden 26 is set to release Aug. 14. Check out the rest of the rookies' ratings **here.**
