Top quotes from Commanders' locker room cleanout

McLaurin010526

The Washington Commanders cleaned out their lockers today and are headed home for the offseason. Here are some of the top quotes from players who spoke with the media.

G Sam Cosmi on OC Kliff Kingsbury:

"I like how aggressive he is. I love being able to communicate with him. He's very open to communication with players if you have suggestions, I have none, but I can be able to talk to your coach, especially your OC about things that you have in mind that could help. Obviously you're not gonna change things, but, 'Hey, I saw this this way,' or, 'The O-line saw this this way. Can you just think about it?' He will, and he does a great job in that aspect."

LB Frankie Luvu assessing his performance during the 2025 season:

"I was happy, you know what I mean? Like I said, man, I got put in situations where guys are down and I had to play a role where, I might be comfortable, I might not, but at the end of the day, man, I'm here to play ball and I'm not off the field. I ain't complaining or anything, but for the most part I'm happy."

T Josh Conerly on the 2025 season:

"It wasn't the results that we wanted or the outcome, but in terms of like how this team went about their business and continue to fight in every game that we played in, it was great to see."

S Will Harris on his takeaways from the 2025 season:

"It's a continuous learning process, so there's a lot of good, a lot of great things we could take from this year. Also, there's a lot of things that we're gonna take and continue to learn from it in the offseason, so I'm excited about that."

P Tress Way on capturing success:

"I had never won a playoff game before, let alone making it all the way to the NFC Championship. But whenever you get a chance to go that far, not that it makes it like more attainable. You just know what the season's like. You're gonna have some injuries, you're gonna lose some games. It's such a fun thing to kind of remember and like try to get back to, and there's a whole lot of gratitude with that. There's a whole lot of hard work with that."

QB Marcus Mariota on Kliff Kingsbury:

"I think so much if Kliff. He's a very good coach. Unbelievable with the quarterbacks, but like an even better person. And when you're able to play for somebody that you truly like, believe in and trust, I think that's why I ended up playing my best. So I'm biased. I think so highly of Kliff, and we'll see what lays out for him. I would love to see him get another shot at it. But at the end of the day, what I was able to accomplish here was a lot of hard work from a lot of different guys. And we had a bunch of guys that were kind of in and out of the lineup. It's a credit to this staff of getting these guys prepared."

WR Terry McLaurin on his health and the upcoming offseason:

"I feel really good. I think coming back after the second time I went out, I felt a lot better. Just kind of the injury I was dealing with, it was tough and you had a aggravation and it was a long process of what I was going through just to try to be on the field. But I got to a point, probably after Madrid, I was just not feeling any pain or setbacks and I was able to put a lot of good consistent days together. Didn't miss any practice or things like that. So I was just able to build back up to full, kind of a normal season. I like to say you build up. So I was feeling good at the end of the season. I was just glad to be able to come back and finish the games and make some plays. And I think this offseason, I really trust my process. I think the contract was just so unpredictable, missing time in camp, like that won't happen next year. So up to this point, the process that I do is take some time from my body, build it up."

QB Jayden Daniels on what his offseason will look like:

"I guess you gotta see when we get back, but it kind of just takes some time away and just focus on my mental and focus on everything else and spend time with my loved ones, but also working out."

CB Mike Sainristil on his offseason goals:

Learn how to be a complete teammate, how to be better for the guys around me, No. 1. And then just watch my own tape and see what areas I struggled in, see what areas I had success in and lay out a good foundation when I begin to start getting back into football this offseason. But it starts with just resetting."

DT Javon Kinlaw on what happened during the 2025 season:

"I just try to look internally. I feel like me personally, I put myself in positions, try to do too much sometimes trying to overcompensate and make all the plays on the field. I could have just done a better job of doing my role, playing with my technique."

RB Jacory Croskey-Merritt on his rookie season and what he wants to do to improve:

I feel like it was the best year for me, and I couldn't have asked for a better year. I'm gonna go get the feedback. I'm looking for the coaches' feedback, and I'm gonna look at everything I did wrong and during the offseason. I'm gonna go hit a hundred percent and come back better than the ever."
