WC26_BHM_100-Years-Graphic_16x9

As we commemorate 100 years of Black history observances, we're proud to spotlight members of our organization whose authentic stories reflect the impact of that legacy today.

From the leaders who inspire them to the mark they will leave behind, these voices embody resilience, purpose, and the continued influence of Black culture within our organization.

By honoring their journeys, we celebrate not only a century of history, but the future being built every day.

What legacy or impact do you hope to leave behind, both professionally and personally?

Professionally, I hope to leave behind a legacy defined by impact, integrity, and intention. I want to be known as someone who was hard-working and determined, who showed up consistently, pushed through challenges, and created real opportunities for women, especially Black and Brown women, to thrive. I believe leadership is rooted in service, advocacy, and creating spaces where people feel supported, respected, and safe to be their full selves

Personally, I hope to be remembered as someone who was caring, encouraging, and present – someone who made others feel seen, protected, and valued. Those I have come to value and respect remind me that honesty, compassion, and self-expression matter, and that creating emotional safety is just as powerful as professional achievement.

Ultimately, the legacy I hope to leave is one where people can say I worked hard, led with heart, and made space for others to grow. That my presence opened doors, my words offered reassurance, and my actions reflected purpose, resilience, and love.

What legacy or impact do you hope to leave behind, both professionally and personally?

I hope to leave behind a legacy rooted in hope and confidence. I want people to believe in themselves and remember that how you treat others matters. You never know which coach, teammate, coworker, or boss will help shape your path in life.

One word that captures the influence of Black culture.

2026 marks 100 year anniversary of national Black history commemorations. What does this milestone mean to you?

The 100th anniversary of Black History Month represents excellence, accomplishments, and the continued opportunity to highlight Black leaders who have shaped our communities. For me, it's especially meaningful to recognize Black leaders who were born and raised in the DMV whose influence, leadership, and dedication continue to inspire future generations.

If you could highlight a Black historical figure who inspires you, who would it be and why?

Shirley Chisholm inspires me because she was a trailblazer who refused to wait for permission. As the first Black woman elected to Congress and the first to run for president, she led with courage, conviction, and clarity often in spaces where she stood alone. Her legacy reminds me that being "first" isn't about the title, but about having the responsibility to create room for others behind you.

What legacy or impact do you hope to leave behind, both professionally and personally?

I hope to leave behind a legacy of a person who exemplified resilience, strength, and persistence. In turn, I want to use the gifts that I've been blessed with to impact those that are around me to become the best versions of themselves.

Who are some of your greatest influences or role models, and how have they shaped your journey?

My greatest role models are my parents and my siblings. They have equally shaped my journey by being a constant source of support and inspiration, but they also challenge me not to settle for what's easy to achieve, and to always do my best even if I do it alone.

2026 marks 100 year anniversary of national Black history commemorations. What does this milestone mean to you?

The 100-year anniversary of National Black History Commemorations is a powerful reminder that Black history has always been intentional, preserved, and fought for. What began in 1926 as a week dedicated to recognizing the contributions of Black Americans has grown into a global observance rooted in resilience and excellence. To me, this milestone represents both legacy and responsibility, honoring those who ensured our stories were told while challenging us to build on their work. It's a moment to reflect on the past, celebrate the present, and commit to shaping the next century of impact.
