4:32 p.m.
And here we go. The Lions have won the toss and will defer. Marcus Mariota and the offense is up first.
4:36 p.m.
We're finished with each team's first drive, and the Lions are up 7-0 after a 14-yard receiving touchdown. Chris Rodriguez got the first carry from the Commanders' offense. It'll be interesting to see how much the Commanders commit to the run game. On defense. Jonathan Jones had an impressive pass breakup on a pass to Amon-Ra St. Brown, who left for the Lions' sideline early.
4:46 p.m.
The Commanders are on the board after responding with a 44-yard field goal from Matt Gay. There was some promising stuff from the offense after a 46-yard return by Noah Igbinoghene. Mariota seems to be developing a solid connection with fellow former Titans first-round pick Treylon Burks, who had two catches for 26 yards on the drive.
4:57 p.m.
Detroit is now up by 11 after a nine-yard touchdown reception by St. Brown. The Commanders are having a really tough time coming up with an answer for the Lions' offense, who seem to be moving down the field at will. They're currently averaging 7.5 yards per play.
5:16 p.m.
Another tough night for Washington. Gibbs runs in an 18-yard score to put the Lions up 21-3. There's less than 10 minutes in the first half and the Lions get the ball to start the third quarter.
5:34 p.m.
The Commanders have cut into the lead after an explosive 41-yard catch by Jaylin Lane moved them into Lions territory. It seems to provide a spark for the offense, as it moved to the 1-yard line before Rodriguez capped things off with a touchdown. It's now 22-10 with just a few minutes left in the first half. Detroit is currently driving around midfield.
6:04 p.m.
We're near the end of the first half at Northwest Stadium, and while the situation isn't ideal, the Commanders are only down 15 after forcing the Lions to settle for a field goal. The defense absolutely must get a few stops the rest of the way. The offense has shown they can move the ball, but they have to get the opportunity.
6:38 p.m.
The offense continues to look solid and responded to the Lions' opening touchdown of the third quarter with one of their own, but the defense continues to struggle containing the Lions' weapons, particularly Gibbs and Williams. It's now 35-16 with 2:30 left in the third quarter.
