The Punisher was on scene for the Washington Commanders' training camp.

Action star Jon Bernthal, who rose to prominence through his roles as Shane Walsh in AMC's The Walking Dead and The Punisher in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, attended Monday's training camp session. Bernthal was joined by his middle school-aged son Bill, who played catch on the sideline with quarterback Sam Hartman and chatted with Jayden Daniels.

"It's just so beautiful for me as a father just to see the quality of men these guys are and the role models that they can be to these kids," Bernthal said. "My son is a quarterback and for Jayden to take the time to say hello to him, for Sam to throw the ball with him, it's just incredible. You see it -- they're all out here with all these fans, and it's truly a wonderful thing to be a Commanders fan. And this team, this culture, it's the absolute truth. I'm just so excited for this team and I believe in them with all my heart."

Bernthal, who graduated from The Sidwell Friends School and grew up in Maryland still has strong Montgomery County roots. As a lifelong Washington fan, Bernthal has been outspoken about his support of the team, even when it hasn't been easy.

"I've been all over this world making movies -- Morocco, Ireland, Greece, all over North Africa, wherever it is -- and no matter what time of day, I'm finding a way to watch those games," Bernthal said to media members after Monday's practice. "Over the years, it's been hard but right now, it's payback time."

Bernthal, along with every diehard Washington Commanders fan, remembers where he was when quarterback Jayden Daniels' Hail Mary pass sealed the walk-off victory over the Chicago Bears. That fateful October night, he was on set in Morocco filming Christopher Nolan's "The Odyssey." Despite it being nearly midnight in Dakhla, he was watching when Daniels' last-ditch effort tipped off defenders and landed in wide receiver Noah Brown's hands in the endzone for the win.

"I was on a set last year with that Hail Mary pass, and went running through the streets of Morocco grabbing people," Bernthal recalled.

After a whirlwind 2024 season, Bernthal is expecting the same big things from Daniels & Co. this time around. His biggest takeaway from Monday's shortened practice session: "The truth is the truth, and you can't mess with this team; everything is right."
