The Washington Redskins have announced the signing of punter Blake Clingan. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Clingan, who stands 6 foot 3 and weighs 233 pounds, was signed in March 2013 by the Detroit Lions as an undrafted free agent out of the University of Central Florida, but he never appeared in a regular-season game with the team.

He punted 13 times for the Lions in the 2013 preseason, averaging 41.5 yards per kick – with a long of 55 yards – and pinning six kicks inside the 20-yard line.

Clingan punted from 2007 through 2010 at Central Florida, where he averaged 41.8 yards per punt his senior season. He attended Coral Springs (Fla.) High School, was ranked as the No. 3 high school punting prospect by Scout.com.
