Redskins Sign Sapp, Spitler To Futures Contracts


The Washington Redskins announced today that they have signed the following players to  Reserve/Future contracts:

  • LB Ricky Sapp
  • LB Austin Spitler

Sapp, 28, was a fifth-round (134th-overall) pick of the Philadelphia Eagles in the 2010 NFL Draft. The Clemson product has played in 17 career games with the New York Jets (2011 to 2013) and Houston Texans (2013 to 2014).

With the Texans in 2014, Sapp played in three games, recording three tackles.

Spitler, 28, was a seventh-round (252nd-overall) pick of the Miami Dolphins in the 2010 NFL Draft. The Ohio State product appeared in 55 games with the Dolphins from 2010 to 2013, collecting 31 tackles.

Spitler was signed by the Baltimore Ravens last June, and was waived by the team during the preseason.

Sapp and Spitler are the 14th and 15th players signed to a Reserve/Future deal by the Redskins since Dec. 30.
