The Washington Commanders have announced jersey number changes for four players, including quarterback Marcus Mariota's return to the No. 8 that he wore throughout his college career and the beginning of his NFL career.

Mariota, who drafted by the Tennessee Titans with the No. 2 overall pick in the 2015 NFL Draft, put together one of the best campaigns in Oregon history while wearing No. 8. He recorded 10,796 passing yards with 105 touchdowns, both of which are program records in three seasons with the Ducks. He collected dozens of accolades in his career, including the Heisman Trophy in 2014 for leading the Pac-12 with 4,454 passing yards with 770 rushing yards and 57 total touchdowns.

Mariota also wore No. 8 during the five seasons he spent with the Titans. He completed 63.9% of his passes for 13,207 yards, which ranks sixth in team history. He also led the franchise to two playoff appearances and defeated the Kansas City Chiefs in the 2018 Wild Card round.

Here is the full list of jersey number changes:

  • QB Marcus Mariota: No. 8
  • T George Fant: 77
  • TE Colson Yankoff: 80
