LOUDOUN COUNTY, Va. – The Washington Commanders announced today that they have extended defensive tackle Shy Tuttle. Full terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Tuttle (6-3, 300) is entering his eighth NFL season after originally being signed by the New Orleans Saints in 2019. Tuttle has appeared in 107 career games with 66 starts and has compiled 247 total tackles, 4.5 sacks, 22 passes defensed, 11 tackles for loss, 10 quarterback hits, three fumble recoveries, two forced fumbles and one interception.
Before being acquired on waivers from the Tennessee Titans last season, Tuttle played for the Carolina Panthers (2023-24), and the New Orleans Saints (2019-22).
Last season, Tuttle appeared in 10 games with the Tennessee Titans, starting in one, with 11 total tackles and one tackle for loss. Tuttle played two games with the Commanders in 2025 (Week 17 and Week 18) recording four tackles.
In 2024, he played and started in 15 games where he recorded 46 total tackles with three passes defensed, two forced recoveries, one forced fumble and one quarterback hit.
In 2023, Tuttle played and started in all 17 games with 43 total tackles, 0.5 sacks, five passes defensed, one quarterback hit and one tackle for loss.
In 2022, Tuttle saw action in all 17 games (starting in 14) and recorded a career-high of 49 total tackles. He also garnered 2.0 sacks, five passes defensed, three quarterback hits and one tackle for loss.
From 2019-21, he played in a total of 46 games (19 starts). His rookie year he registered 18 total tackles, 2.0 sacks, four passes defensed, three quarterback hits, three tackles for loss and one interception.
Tuttle is a Midway, North Carolina native and attended North Davidson High School.
He played collegiately at the University of Tennessee where he appeared in 35 games and recorded 79 tackles, 6 tackles for loss, 1.0 sacks, three passes defensed, three fumble recoveries and one interception.
