Final thoughts | Jayden Daniels' injury not considered serious, Dorance Armstrong out for the year

Washington Commanders head coach Dan Quinn addressed the media on Monday following the team's 44-22 loss to the Dallas Cowboys. Here are some of his final thoughts before the team moves on to the Kansas City Chiefs.

-- Quinn did not mince words about the team's situation. "We're off the mark," he told reporters as he gave his opening statement. Quinn wore the frustration on his face as he said, "the only thing consistent has been our inconsistency," and that much is evident based on how the team has played since the start of the season. Prior to yesterday, wins were followed up by losses -- a result of how the Commanders have failed to string together success on a week-to-week and even down-to-down basis. Quinn said he will find out a lot about his team over the next few weeks.

"We need everyone to step up -- coaches and players," Quinn said.

-- Quinn provided two bits of injury news, and like the head coach, we'll start off with the bad news. Dorance Armstrong, who left the Cowboys game early with a knee injury, has been ruled out for the season. He will be placed on the Reserve/Injured list, where fellow defensive ends Deatrich Wise and Javontae Jean-Baptiste already reside. The Commanders are still trying to formulate a plan on how to replace three of their defensive ends through a mixture of players already on the roster and possible free agent acquisitions.

There was some better news regarding Jayden Daniels, who also left the game with a hamstring injury. The MRI results revealed that Daniels' hamstring injury would not be a long-term issue, but Quinn didn't know whether the quarterback would be available for Monday's game. The Commanders won't release their first injury report of the week until Thursday.

-- The Commanders have several lingering issues, from slow starts on offense to giving up explosive plays on defense. Quinn wants to look hard for the cause of all those problems and see what they can fix through tweaking the scheme or philosophy. He also didn't rule out personnel changes in the secondary, but he wants to get a look at the full scope of the issues before making any decisions.

-- Quinn thought the game "really took a turn" at the end of the first half, when the Cowboys scored a touchdown on a four-play drive that included a 44-yard and 33-yard play from Dallas' offense. Quinn expressed his displeasure with the series immediately following the game, saying, "Words cannot express" how upset he was in the locker room.

-- Quinn was pleased with how guard Sam Cosmi performed in his season debut. Cosmi, who missed the first six games recovering from a knee injury, only had one mental error that came during pass protection. Quinn expected that to happen and said that it would be smoothed out with more reps.

-- The Commanders are in a tough spot at this point in the season. They have a difficult slate of games coming up next; injuries are hampering the roster; and the team is, to use his words, off course in terms of their identity and standard. Quinn has leaned on the team's culture since he arrived in Washington, and that isn't going to change with the team going through a rough patch.

"The leading and the brotherhood during the successful times, that's easy to do. It is now on these times that you can have...the honest conversations about where we're at. When I talk to the team, I'm brutally honest about where we're at."
