Washington Commanders head coach Dan Quinn addressed the media on Tuesday following the team's 28-7 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs. Here are some of his final thoughts before the team moves on to the Seattle Seahawks.
-- Quinn didn't have any updates on the Commanders' injured players, as he had not met with the medical team prior to his press conference, but he did provide some positive updates on Jayden Daniels, who missed Monday's game with a hamstring injury. Daniels had a good rehab period last week and is expected to be at practice in some capacity on Wednesday. The Commanders have been careful with Daniels' health, however, so it's possible he will only practice in a limited capacity.
-- Part of the Commanders' defensive adjustments was giving second-year players Jordan Magee and Tyler Owens more defensive snaps. Magee was involved in 84% of the defensive plays, while Owens played 36% of the snaps -- career highs for both players. Quinn liked the speed from both players and feels they have earned the right to more snaps going forward.
-- Quinn said the missed opportunities from the offense are still on his mind. The Commanders' first three drives ended with some form of turnover in Chiefs territory, and Quinn said the unit has to execute in those moments, as they could have been the difference between going into the locker room at halftime with a lead rather than a tie.
-- The Commanders' run game, which has been a strength for the roster since Quinn became the head coach, has been out of sync over the last three weeks. Monday's game was the worst example of that, as they put up a season-low 60 yards, including just 18 yards in the second half, on 20 carries. Quinn wants to get things back on track, even if that requires them to settle for runs of minimal gains. "It has to be a bigger part of our game," he said.
-- "Everybody's frustrated," Quinn said when asked about the team's three-game losing skid, but players and coaches are trying to stay optimistic about turning things around. The positivity stems from knowing what they need to do to get back on course and trying to execute that plan. Quinn added that the emotions the Commanders are feeling right now are natural, but the more important question is, "What are you gonna do about it?" Quinn liked what he saw from last week's practice and still appreciates the team's commitment to improvement.
-- Jacob Martin was one of the Commanders' best playmakers against the Chiefs, collecting two sacks on Patrick Mahomes to go with two tackles. Quinn likes what he has seen from the veteran over the last two weeks, saying that while he isn't the biggest defensive end, there is some explosiveness to his skill set. "He's got a relentless nature about him, and he's earned these chances and more [opportunities] to go get it. He's always been a very consistent player. ... Players like that are really important on your team. They're 'glue' players."
