With Week 1 of the regular season on the horizon, Washington Legends Santana Moss and Fred Smoot couldn't help but bring up their excitement for Washington Commanders linebacker Frankie Luvu and his dynamic style of play from the 2024 season.
"This vision of this guy has been in our heads since the NFC Championship game [when he was] flying over the top of the Eagles line," Moss said.
Luvu was one of the "Get Loud" analysts' top players to watch this season. In his first year with Washington and seventh year of his career, he ranked number 70 in the NFL's top 100 players of 2025.
"I don't know if there's a player who plays like a maniac more than him. I mean the effort on every single play is unbelievable," said host Michael Jenkins.
In 2024, Luvu put up 99 total tackles, 54 solo tackles, eight sacks and his second interception of his career. His eight sacks last year ranked 13th in the NFL.
Most notable to Smoot was the effort and relentlessness seen from the veteran in his seventh year of his career.
"That's what you want; energy, intensity, serious about his job," Smoot said. "The one thing about linebackers is you want them to be able to swap paint. I don't care if it's with the offensive linemen, running back, quarterback, it don't matter. [Luvu] is going in head first."
Luvu has had 266 solo tackles, 28 sacks and 29 passes defended over his career. Last year, he ranked second on the team in tackles and recorded a career-high in sacks.
Smoot added that the attention from the success Luvu achieved with Burgundy & Gold in reaching the NFC Championship and ending Washington's playoff drought also helped to gain him recognition within the league.
"I thought this year they finally started to give him props," Smoot said.
According to Smoot and Moss, with the upgrades to Washington's defense over the offseason and with a continuation of the effort and intensity that Luvu played with last season, he could be one of the most exciting players to watch on the Commanders this season.
