Quarterback Marcus Mariota and left tackle Laremy Tunsil have been ruled out of the Washington Commanders' season finale against the Philadelphia Eagles, head coach Dan Quinn said following Friday's practice.

Mariota, who is dealing with a cut on his throwing hand and a quad injury, was considered doubtful to play in Week 18, Quinn said earlier in the week, and has not practiced since sustaining his injuries. Josh Johnson is set to make his second start to close out the Commanders' season.

"If he can accelerate and stop and start and do those things, that would be a difference," Quinn said of Mariota on Wednesday. "He's not able to do that today."

Johnson made his first start since the 2021 season on Christmas Day and completed 65% of his passes for 198 yards with no turnovers. It was the second highest completion percentage of his career as a starter and his fourth most yards in a single game. Quinn said on Monday that the Commanders would "lean and start with Josh again" if Mariota could not play because of Johnson's performance and decision-making that helped the offense have one of its better performances since the bye week and keep the game competitive.

"Josh did a lot of things correct that I liked, so we would lean in that way again for sure," Quinn said.

Tunsil has dealt with an oblique injury that held him out of Washington's Week 17 game last Thursday. While Tunsil has no issues moving forward, Quinn said, he has had issues with "turning and torquing." Like Mariota, Tunsil has not practiced all week and was considered a "long shot" to play on Sunday.

"Everything with your oblique is all about the rotation and the power that comes from that," Quinn said.

Second-year pro Brandon Coleman is currently in line to start in Tunsil's place at left tackle -- a position he held as a rookie in 2024. Coleman had one of his best weeks as a pass-blocker against the Cowboys, according to Pro Football Focus, allowing just one pressure on 28 pass block snaps.

"I think...he has learned a lot here in year two," Quinn said. "This is a resilient guy that can do a lot of things based on his athleticism, him learning and going through the hard moments."

This story will be updated once the Commanders have released their full injury report for Friday.
