It felt like the Washington Commanders struggled with missed opportunities throughout the night against the Green Bay Packers.
Whether it was missed field goals, failing to sustain drives or missing tackles for a loss by just a few inches, game-changing plays seemed just out of the Commanders' reach. And for every mistake, Jordan Love and the Packers seemed to have an answer for it.
Although there were a handful of positive plays that kept them hanging around in the Thursday Night Football matchup, the Commanders were out of sync from their usual selves in the 27-10 loss that dropped them to 1-1. It was a reminder that while there was excitement about what the team can accomplish in 2025, there is still plenty of work to be done on both sides of the ball.
It took a while for Jayden Daniels and the Commanders' offense to get going, largely because of the Packers' pass rush. Daniels was under pressure for most of the evening, as he was sacked four times. They didn't gain a first down until the second quarter and couldn't muster 100 total yards of offense until the third quarter. The rushing offense, which put up 220 yards in Week 1, was stifled to just 51 yards on 19 carries.
Daniels finished the night with 200 passing yards on 42 pass attempts and two touchdowns.
Still, there were opportunities to at least make the game closer. They left six points on the field with two missed field goals at the end of the first half and start of the third quarter. They were forced to punt on a drive that started at their own 45-yard line after only gaining 12 yards in six plays.

Meanwhile, the defense managed to keep things competitive by allowing just 17 points through three quarters, but the Packers still managed to move the ball effectively when it mattered most. Love, who finished the night with 292 passing yards and two touchdowns, willed his team to amass 404 total yards and 6.4 yards per play. Tight end Tucker Kraft, his favorite target, often found success with 124 yards on six catches on seven targets. Josh Jacobs wore down the Commanders with 84 yards on 23 carries, one of which ended in a two-yard touchdown.
Even more concerning for the Commanders' long-term future is the number of injuries they sustained throughout the night. Running back Austin Ekeler (Achilles) and Deatrich Wise Jr. (quad) were both carted off the field. Five other players sustained injuries over the course of the game, and while some, like Brandon Coleman and cornerback Trey Amos returned to the action, others, like Noah Brown and John Bates, were sidelined for the rest of the game.
The Packers got things started in the first quarter following a turnover on downs on their opening drive. Love and the Packers moved downfield on a 96-yard drive, fueled mostly by a 57-yard catch-and-run by Kraft. Love also had a 14-yard scramble that moved the Packers to the Commanders' 5-yard line and finished things off with a five-yard touchdown pass to Romeo Doubs. They got in the end zone again in the second quarter after Malik Heath hauled in a 37-yard reception. Doubs then added a 17-yard grab, and Jacobs powered across the goal line four plays later.
The Commanders managed to find some momentum in the second quarter, but there were frustrating moments in that possession as well. Daniels had back-to-back incompletions -- one to Brown and another to Terry McLaurin -- stalling things at the 33-yard line and forcing Matt Gay out for a 51-yard field goal.
After both teams missed field goals to close out the half, Deebo Samuel started the third quarter with a 50-yard return that moved the Commanders to the Packers' 44-yard line. However, that drive ended early as well, as Gay's 52-yard attempt hit the right upright. The Packers, who took over at their own 42-yard line, didn't need long to get into field goal range with a 23-yard catch by Luke Musgrave. Although the Commanders' defense managed to hold firm inside their own 5-yard line, the 22-yard field goal by Brandon McManus put the Packers up by 14 points with about seven minutes left in the quarter.
It was then that the Commanders' offense started to find some life. They picked up two fourth downs -- one off a run by Ekeler and another because of a defensive holding call -- and capped things off with a 20-yard touchdown by Zach Ertz. They also put together a 10-play drive that ended with Samuel running in a 10-yard pass from Daniels.
However, the Packers had answers for every attempt the Commanders made at a comeback. They responded to the Commanders first touchdown with another of their own, with Love connecting with Kraft for an eight-yard score. They also forced a turnover on downs from the Commanders on their next possession, which helped put them in range for another field goal from McManus.
Washington's final attempt at a comeback ended at their own 33-yard line on an incomplete pass intended for Samuel, allowing the Packers to run down the clock and take the victory.
