The Washington Commanders assistant coaches all spoke to the media on Thursday. Here are some of the top quotes from their joint press conference.

Wide receiver coach Bobby Engram on what gets him most excited about Jaylin Lane:

"Every aspect of being a better receiver, honestly. Jaylin's a super smart guy. He's a coach's son, so he gets to exercise on different level. Love his work ethic, but my job is to help him prepare just to kind of tap into every ounce of potential that he has, and he's willing to work and do that. So, I'm excited about that."

Engram on Luke McCaffrey in his second season:

"Just continued growth as a receiver. Route running, run after the catch, contested catches, really everything. But I thought Luke did a great job of just staying the course last year. Got out, took a bit of a hot start and then things kind of cooled off a little bit. But he never wavered in his approach and his work ethic. So, I think naturally the biggest jump will be between year one and year two. And I really like the speed and the way he's attacking football out there right now. He's made some really tough catches."

Defensive line coach Darryl Tapp on expectations for the 2025 season:

"We know we have the opportunity to be a good team. So, I think everybody's just excited to see what we can do going forward. The guys are rejuvenated. They're healthy, they're excited about a brand new year. And they all believe in [Defensive coordinator] Coach [Joe] Whitt and myself and [Assistant linebackers coach/pass rush specialist Ryan] Kerrigan and [Assistant defensive line coach Sharrif] Floyd. Like we have a good situation here, and guys understand that being an NFL player is a small window in their lives, so we wanna make sure we maximize every time. So that's where the excitement comes from."

Tapp on the defensive changes up front:

"We have a lot of veteran leadership. Javon Kinlaw, my guy from San Fran, seeing him grow from a puppy in his league to now year five. The player is doing a lot of big things and really coming to his own as far as his play style and winning up. Deatrich Wise, the guy's been around the block a couple times in New England. Plays some really good ball, really sound ball. We brought in Eddie Goldman, we brought in Carl Davis back and brought Sheldon Davis back to add to Daron Payne and Javontae Jean-Baptiste. It's a really good mesh of veteran guys that played some good ball and guys that have been here.

Linebackers coach Ken Norton Jr. on Dominique Hampton:

"Dom has really worked hard this off season. He's really changed his body. And he's strong, he's fast. He's really upped his ability to communicate playing a middle linebacker. He has to do a great job of communicating. He's really upped his IQ about how to understand the defenses, because being in the middle and making different checks and calls, you have to be right. Nnow when he says something, he knows it's important because everybody's listening."

Offensive line coach Bobby Johnson on Laremy Tunsil:

"Anytime you get really talented, good players that are established. You're excited about that. I've been excited in my conversations with him,in my contact with him, but just he's got a good library of knowledge. He's seen a lot of different things."

Run game coordinator/running backs coach Anthony Lynn on Jacory Croskey-Merritt:

"He's working, man. I love the kid. He's already a young professional. He gets this business. He worked his way up from Alabama State to get to this level, and that says a lot about his work ethic right there. But he's looking good. Usually by that third week of training camp, I'll know exactly what we have in him, but he's learning right now. He's growing up like a weed every day. So, I'm pleased with where he is at."

Defensive pass game coordinator/defensive backs coach Jason Simmons on Trey Amos:

"He looked really good. The thing is about him that I'm most impressed with is his maturity, his ability to be able to grasp the playbook, his willingness to ask questions. A lot of times we have young guys in there that're a little apprehensive about asking questions. He knows that he wants to be good. He know what it takes to be good. He comes from a really good program and we're excited to have him."

Simmons on Marshon Lattimore:

"We've definitely communicated. Of course this is all voluntary, but I'm excited to come and see him in mandatory minicamp. Marshon is a guy that is extremely talented. We all know that. I'm excited to see him come back and be healthy. He's gonna come back of course with a chip on his shoulder because he's the ultimate competitor. Just can't wait to get him back in the room."

Assistant quarterbacks coach David Blough on Deebo Samuel:

"You see versatility that he brings as a ball carrier, the mismatch that is for defensive backs. I never really got to play with a player like him as a player and now coaching, it's, 'How do we best utilize the skills that he's got, what he's done well in the past and, and ask him to do other things well.' We're excited about the opportunity to have him help us reach new heights."

Quarterbacks coach Tavita Pritchard on Jayden Daniels' second season:

"I think the fun thing for us is we get to not really worry about what the stats are or the process. We get to worry about right now is what does year two Jayden look like in the walkthrough? What does year two Jayden look like in the meeting room? So, I think that what's most at the forefront for us as coaches is, 'How are we gonna take that next step? What's the next thing that we're gonna talk about in his progression of taking his next step? So, that's what's been fun for us just to kind of focus in and home in on those things.
