ASHBURN, Va. - To further cement its dedication to the sanctioning of girls flag football across Washington, D.C., Virginia, and Maryland, the Washington Commanders have announced a meaningful commitment to 127 girls flag programs in the DMV over the next two years. The support will include funding, equipment, and additional programming, with the team contributing more than $1 million to grow the game. The announcement marks one of the largest contributions to girls' youth sports in the region.

Each of the 127 girls flag football programs in D.C., Virginia, and Maryland's Prince George's and Montgomery Counties will receive financial support from the team. In addition, the Commanders will provide each program with 25 custom Nike uniforms and an NFL Flag Kit, including 50 flags, 10 footballs, and instructional materials. Every team will also have the opportunity to offer Commanders-hosted programming in their community, such as Learn to Play and coaching clinics and season kickoff and championship celebrations. This multi-faceted contribution will aid the growth of girls flag at all levels, from teaching new coaches and players the basics of the sport to highlighting the region's top athletes through championship programming.
"Growing the game of football at all levels remains a top priority for our organization – with a strong emphasis on supporting the growth of girls flag football," said Mark Clouse, Team President, Washington Commanders. "As the sport continues to gain momentum across the country, we're proud to deepen our investment in the DMV region by delivering a first-class experience for everyone involved – from athletes and coaches to administrators and fans. We believe in the power of sports to transform the lives of youth and we will continue to work tirelessly alongside all 127 programs in the effort to amplify girls flag football in D.C., Virginia, and Maryland."
The 127 teams include 25 from the D.C. Public Schools and D.C. Charter Schools and 51 programs across Virginia, including Fairfax, Prince William, Richmond, Arlington, Fauquier, and Henrico Counties. Additionally, the Commanders will continue to work in collaboration with the Baltimore Ravens on sanctioning efforts in Maryland, supporting 51 teams in Prince George's and Montgomery Counties.
