Trey Amos named to NFL.com's 2025 All-Rookie team

The hype continues to build for Washington Commanders rookie cornerback Trey Amos.

Amos, the Commanders' second-round pick back in April, was named to the NFL's All-Rookie team by NFL.com's Gennaro Felice. He joins New York Giants defensive end Abdul Carter and Dallas Cowboys defensive end Donovan Ezeiruaku as the only NFC East representatives on the list.

"The Commanders signed veteran Jonathan Jones, who offers inside/outside ability, but Amos sure has the look of a Dan Quinn corner," **Filice wrote.**

Amos (6-foot-1, 195 pounds) was a First Team All-SEC cornerback who led his team with 13 pass breakups. A five-year player who suited up for three squads, Amos recorded 122 tackles and three interceptions.

The Commanders needed to provide depth at cornerback aside from Marshon Lattimore and 2024 draft pick Mike Sainristil. Amos can fill that role on the outside, as he has quick feet and can play in press coverage. Amos stood out in the draft process with a solid combine performance, recording a 4.43 40-yard dash, 32.5-inch vertical and 10-foot-6 broad jump.

Many draft analysts had Amos as a first-round pick and believed the Commanders got "a steal" when they drafted him with the 61st overall pick. NFL.com's Chad Reuter wrote that Amos was "fantastic in man coverage," while SB Nation's Joseph Acosta gave the Commanders an "A+" for the pick because of how he fit into Washington's scheme.

Although it's still early, Amos has already impressed his coaches and teammates with his technique and desire to learn.

"His technique is there," cornerback Marshon Lattimore said when asked about Amos. "From what I can see...he looks complete. He's a rookie, and it's early, but throughout the season, I feel like he's going to keep that up and get better as the season goes."

The Commanders were searching for cornerback help during the offseason, particularly one who could excel in man coverage. They believe they have found it with Amos, and if he can keep impressing the team during training camp, it could lead to him being an immediate contributor on the perimeter.

"Washington was thrilled when he was still available late in the second round, and no wonder: The big, physical CB displayed enticing press-man ability last season in the SEC, earning first-team all-conference honors," Filice wrote.
